ABOUT JAKUB POLACZYK

 

Jakub Polaczyk is a composer, pianist, musicologist and music teacher.

 

In 2013, as a full scholarship recipient he recieved his Artist Diploma in Composition with  Reza Vali from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh where he was also a pianist of the Carnegie Contemporary Ensemble.

Prior to Carnegie Mellon University, he studied composition with Marcel Chyrzynski, orchestration with Krzysztof Penderecki, and computer music with Marek Choloniewski at the Music Academy of Cracow, Poland. There he graduated with a combined Bachelor's / Master's Degree Program in Composition (2010) and Piano with Irena Rolanowska at the Zelenski Music High School in Cracow (2005).

 

Polaczyk's music education also includes a Master Degree in Musicology from Jagiellonian University in Cracow (2009) and postgraduate studies in film, theater and audiovisual music in Lodz, Poland (2012). In the spring of 2009, as part of the Exchange Scholars program, he studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, where he refined his compositional techniques in the class of Jan van Landeghem.

 

Polaczyk received numerous national and international awards in composition and scholarships outside the academia. 

The most recent award includes the Iron Composer 2013 in Cleveland,Ohio. Polaczyk was also a finalist of the American Prize in Composition in 2014. He was chosen to particitpate in many composition masterclasses including: Ostrava Music Days 2009 in Czech Republic, Etchings Festival in France (2010), SoundScape in Italy (2011), Savellyspaja in Finland (2013), Synthesis in Poland (2013), and Oregon Bach Festival in USA (2014).

 

As a pianist he premiered pieces in Poland and USA. His compositions were performed on many international festivals and conferences, including ISCM in Sydney (2010) and San Francisco Contemporary Annual Festival (2013), Contemporary Music Conference CMS at the Boston University (2015).

 

His pieces are published by: PWM, Feniks, and Euterpe in Poland.

His music was released by Ablaze Records in USA. He was a pianist of the Carnegie Contemporary Ensemble and teaching at the Melody Music Studios, Gloria Music Academy in Kentucky and Tichner National Music School in his Homeland in Poland.

 

In 2015 Polaczyk moved to New York City and besides being part of the Andrea Baquero private music lessons program, is a part of the faculty of the NY Conservatory of Music where he teaches theory, composition, piano and guitar.
